Record-breaking performance in challenging times
Irish food, drink and horticulture exports achieved a record breaking performance in challenging times in 2022, increasing to a value of €16.7 billion up 22% on the prior year
2021 was the second year of significantly disrupted and abnormal trading and market realities, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The world kept eating in 2020 despite the global pandemic, but the channels by which Ireland’s food and drink arrives to consumers were disrupted, and consumers across the world have begun adopting new behaviours.
A record year for food and drink exports - worth €13bn for the first time, a 7% increase on the previous year.
The Irish food and drink sector recorded the sixth consecutive year of export growth in 2015 and it is estimated that the value of Irish food and drink exports increased by 3% to exceed €10.8 billion. This represents a new high for exports and marks growth of over 51% or €3.6 billion since 2009. The strongest performers in terms of export growth were beverages, beef and seafood.
